The Murray family’s busy home had just one bathroom, and the existing layout was no longer working for everyday life. The bath was used almost exclusively as a shower but took up too much space, leaving the shower area cramped and often allowing water onto the floor. Storage was limited and the overall finish had become dated.

During the summer months the family relied on the immersion heater for hot water, often running it for an hour just to get around twenty minutes of hot water. For a working couple with children at school, the bathroom needed to be far more practical, efficient and suited to daily family routines.

We redesigned the layout to make better use of the available space and improve how the room functioned day to day.

The bath was replaced with a full-width shower under the window, creating a much larger and more comfortable showering area. The toilet was repositioned so it is no longer the first thing seen when entering the room, improving both privacy and the overall layout.

A custom pony wall at the end of the shower:

• Conceals the toilet drainage for a cleaner finish
• Helps prevent water escaping from the shower area
• Includes a recessed niche for toiletries used by the whole family

An instant electric shower was installed to provide hot water on demand without relying on the immersion heater. The shower can easily switch between a multi-spray handset and a fixed rainfall head.
